A man has been arrested in relation to a suspected double murder near Tauranga on Tuesday.
The 25-year old was arrested by armed police in the Christchurch suburb of New Brighton.
Police say he is known to a man who fired at least 20-shots while fleeing from police in Tauranga on Thursday night.
The man, who was alone in the car, refused to stop for police and fired numerous volleys at them before being shot and killed by police.
The incident has shocked local people.
