Wuhan evacuation flight due to land in Auckland

From Checkpoint, 5:21 pm on 5 February 2020

An Air New Zealand flight which rescued nearly 200 people stranded in Wuhan this morning is due to arrive at Auckland Airport in the next half hour.

The flight picked up 190 people from Wuhan, the epicentre of the virus outbreak, around 6.45am New Zealand time.

One person was stopped from boarding the flight this morning after being screened because they were unwell.

There are evacuees from 11 other countries on board, many of whom will be heading straight into quarantine when they touch down.

Checkpoint reporter Nita Blake-Persen is at Auckland Airport and joins us live.
