Whakaari White Island survivors may soon return home

The death toll from the Whakaari White Island eruption now stands at 17, with the overnight death of another victim in Middlemore Hospital in South Auckland. But there is some good news as well, with hopes that more survivors will be able to fly back to their home countries in the coming weeks, as their conditions improve. Counties-Manukau chief medical officer Dr Peter Watson says some patients are on the improve, but many are still undergoing regular surgeries, and the pressure on services is huge.
