A man has been taken to Hawke's Bay Hospital in a critical condition after being shot by police during an incident at school in Flaxmere.
Hastings District Councillor Peleti Oli says he was in a council meeting, when one of the councillors received a message that a gunman had been shot at Flaxmere Primary School.
Mr Oli told RNZ reporter Charlotte Cook that ended the meeting and he rushed over to the school.
