The Silver Ferns netball coach Noeline Taurua says shooter Maria Folau's contribution to the game is immeasurable.

The 150 test veteran has announced she's retiring from all netball.

Folau, 32, first played for the Silver Ferns in 2005 as an 18-year-old and went on compete at four World Cups, including New Zealand's win in Liverpool this year.

She has also won two Commonwealth Games gold medals.

Her last game for the Silver Ferns was against Australia in October in the Constellation Cup. Silver Ferns coach Noeline Taurua told RNZ sports editor Stephen Hewson that Folau is undoubtedly one of the game's greats and she'd known for the past year that Folau's retirement was edging closer and closer.
