Truck driver speaks on 2012 crash that killed tourists

From Checkpoint, 6:18 pm on 4 December 2019

The driver of a truck that slammed into a campervan killing two tourists a decade ago has accused the police of washing away evidence that would prove a mechanical fault caused the crash.

A second inquest into the deaths of Joan Roma-Serra and Eva Fajula-Rovira opened at the Auckland District Court on Wednesday.

The couple, both 34 years old, were on their way to the Bay of Islands when a Linfox truck and trailer unit smashed into them on State Highway One, just north of Whangarei.

Today, for the first time, the driver of that truck shared his side of the story. Katie Scotcher reports.
