Protestors curse mana whenua at Owairaka hui

From Checkpoint, 6:11 pm on 28 November 2019

Protesters at a public hui in Auckland cursed mana whenua of the ancestral maunga, Ōwairaka, Mt Albert, telling them they were colonisers and questioning their whakapapa.

The hui was called by Tūpuna Maunga Authority and was for the public to air their concerns about the restoration project on the mountain.

A small group of protesters, Honour the Maunga, who are against the felling of 345 trees, refused to attend - with only some members going individually.

Māni Dunlop was there.
