As firecrews battle over 300 bushfires in Australia, 13 firefighters have been treated for injuries.

The latest hurt was a helicopter pilot, who crashed his chopper near Toowoomba in Queensland this evening.

He is being treated by the Queensland Ambulance Service.

So far, four people have died in the fires, and 50 homes were lost on Tuesday.

Many people had to flee their homes, while others decided to stay and fight the flames.

Tales of survival are starting to emerge, including that of Paul Sekfy from Macksville on the north coast of New South Wales.

He shared a note that firefighters left on his fridge when he came home, after he and his wife had given up hope that their home would be saved.

Paul spoke to Alex Perrottet, as he had his breakfast at a cafe in Nambucca, and started by describing how he called his wife on Saturday to tell her to abandon the house.
