NZQA urged to change NCEA schedule to help Māori students

From Checkpoint, 6:26 pm on 12 November 2019

Māori teachers and parents are calling for the qualifications authority to change the NCEA timetable to stop disadvantaging Te Reo Māori students.

Many of them are sitting in an exam room for six hours today, with the level two NCEA English exam scheduled on the same day as the Level two Te Reo Māori exam.

Concerned parents say that if Māori achievement was a priority, the exams wouldn't be on the same day.
