The former Dunedin doctor accused of murdering teenager Amber-Rose Rush suggested to her mother the 16-year-old may have committed suicide.

When that was dismissed, he offered the names of potential suspects in her murder.

Venod Skantha is on trial in the High Court at Dunedin.

Timothy Brown has been following the case.
