Fears gunshot injury may change leopard seal's behaviour

A biologist observing a seal who may have been shot at the weekend says the injury could change the cheeky mammal's behaviour forever.

Resident leopard seal Owha is a familiar face around Auckland's Waitematā Harbour - known for sunbathing on pontoons and nipping the odd inflatable dinghy.

She was found bleeding from the head on Saturday from a suspected gunshot wound - an injury that might have permanent physical and behavioural effects.

RNZ reporter Anneke Smith has the story.
