Southern DHB boss apologises to cancer patients after scathing report

From Checkpoint, 5:20 pm on 21 October 2019

The Southern DHB has been forced to apologise to four urology patients for falling short in their treatment and care - issues that reduced the life expectancy of one man who now has secondary cancer.

The Health and Disability Commissioner has released a report on Urology services at the DHB today after receiving 38 complaints since the beginning of 2016.

The report, which investigates the treatment of four patients, found lengthy delays in assessment and treatment resulted in substantial clinical risk.

Lisa Owen talks to the chief executive of the Southern DHB, Chris Fleming. She asks him about that written apology to Stephen Hoffman.
