Anti-terror law change: Justice Minister to talk with National

From Checkpoint, 5:36 pm on 17 October 2019

The Justice Minister will meet with the National Party early next week to see if they can thrash out a consensus on new counter terrorism legislation.

But the two parties continue to trade blows, accusing each other of irresponsible comments and grandstanding before they've even got to the table.

The legislation would give the government more powers to deal with the potential return of foreign fighters like the so-called 'Bumbling Jihadi' Mark Taylor from Syria or other conflict zones.

The Greens won't support it, meaning National's votes will be needed to get it over the line.

RNZ political editor Jane Patterson has the details.
