Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters says a proposal to legalise drug checks at music festivals will only send the wrong message to would-be users.
New Zealand First has put the brakes on Labour and Greens supported plan - which would have allowed pill testing services at events this summer.
The party says it condones illegal drug taking - while advocates say it will save lives.
