Tens of thousands across NZ march for climate change action

"Dinosaurs thought they had time too" - that's just one of the many messages from young activists marching to motivate older generations to actually do something about climate change.

Tens of thousands hit the streets around the country, in the third and largest school strike this year.

The marchers have been inspired by 16-year-old climate activist Greta Thunberg who this week delivered a blistering attack at the United Nations.

She accused global leaders of stealing her dreams and her childhood with their empty words.

Nita Blake-Persen and cameraman Nick Monro joined hundreds of students from South Auckland - who wanted the world to know their message.

And around the rest of New Zealand, tens of thousands rallied in regional centres.

Some of the biggest crowds were in Wellington, where the demonstration was reported to be one of the largest in living memory.
