Fuel companies say they're ready to pump big bucks into more storage in the wake of a critical report into the failure of Auckland's fuel supply.

Planes at Auckland Airport were grounded for 10 days and some petrol stations ran dry after the pipeline from Marsden Point ruptured two years ago.

A government inquiry has found failings in investment and planning exacerbated fuel shortages, urging BP, Mobil and Z Energy to invest in more infrastructure.
