Fiji deaths: Witchcraft rumours raise community fears

From Checkpoint, 6:25 pm on 5 September 2019

The so-called 'miracle baby' in Fiji who was found 10 days ago crawling near five dead family members at the top of a cliff, has been discharged from hospital.

Nirmal Kumar, his wife, their daughter and two granddaughters were found on the morning of August 26 in the Nausori Highlands having disappeared two days earlier.

A farmer discovered the crying child and four of the dead family members lying in a pattern at the top of a high cliff and another of the dead adults nearby.

Police believe they ingested an unknown toxic substance.

The one-year-old is now in the care of her mother who hurried back to Fiji from Australia at news of the mysterious tragedy.
