Police not aware of threats to Southern, Molyneux, court hears

From Checkpoint, 5:50 pm on 2 September 2019

A court has been told that police were not aware of any threats to two far right Canadian speakers, despite Auckland Council banning them from speaking at a council venue because of safety concerns.

Lauren Southern and Stefan Molyneux cancelled their event after the council-controlled Regional Facilities Auckland barred them from using ratepayer-funded venues.

Members of the Free Speech Coalition, David Cumin and Dunedin Mayoral candidate Malcom Moncrief-Spittle are challenging the decision in the High Court in Auckland.

Matthew Theunissen was there.
