Gun laws will drive mental health issues underground - Hudson

The second wave of gun laws is making baddies out of the good guys - according to the National Party.

And it says it unlikely to support legislation after seeing a draft copy that it claims was leaked to it.

The next round of reforms would see a gun register established, fines for some gun offences jumping from $1,000 to $10,000 and would require gun club to be certified and registered every five years.

And National says doctors would be required to pass on medical information if it indicated someone was unfit to hold a firearms licence.

The party's police spokesperson Brett Hudson says the reforms will unfairly target good people and drive mental health problems underground.
