Levin prisoners escape: Police admit best practice not followed

From Checkpoint, 5:37 pm on 22 August 2019

The police have admitted they didn't follow "best practice" when three prisoners managed to escape from custody in Levin yesterday.

The trio were able to flee when one of only two officers was restrained by a fourth prisoner - as they were being led to a van at the courthouse.

It's thought none of the prisoners were wearing handcuffs at the time. Laura Dooney filed this report from Levin.
