From Checkpoint, 5:38 pm on 21 August 2019

The most senior Catholic cleric ever to be convicted of child sex abuse is back behind bars after failing in his bid to have his convictions quashed.

The Australian cardinal George Pell was jailed for six years in March after being found guilty of sexually abusing two choirboys when he was Archbishop of Melbourne in the 1990s.

Today his appeal was dismissed in a two-to-one decision by the Victorian Court of Appeal.
