‘Incredibly moving’ ceremony welcomes home soldiers' remains

From Checkpoint, 5:24 pm on 21 August 2018

In a moving ceremony at Auckland Airport this morning, 27 New Zealand soldiers and one child finally came home after lying for decades in cemeteries in Malaysia and Singapore. The servicemen died on active duty between 1955 and 1971 in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. The repatriation process has taken nearly half a century, but today the long wait for family members came to an end. RNZ Veteran's Affairs Reporter Andrew McRae was at the ceremony.
