Bright to settle with council and backpay $89k in rates

From Checkpoint, 6:12 pm on 16 May 2018

Veteran activist Penny Bright says she will likely end up compromising with Auckland Council over the forced sale of her home. Ms Bright owes the council nearly $89,000 in unpaid rates, penalties and legal fees - so the council sought to sell her million-dollar Morningside home in order to recover costs. Ms Bright says she has stage three ovarian cancer and wants to settle with the council so she can focus on her health. She will now work towards a postponement arrangement with the council, which would defer the payment of rates until Ms Bright sells the home or passes away.
