Lynette Haines, a 69-year-old pensioner living in the Bay of Plenty, told Checkpoint last night
she had no choice but to live in a caravan at a campground because her pension was not enough to live on.

After telling her story, Ms Haines has had offers of work and accommodation as well as tickets to the movies, gift cards, and offers of dinner and coffee with strangers.

"I'm just overwhelmed," she said.

She said there were many "loving and kind" people out there, and she has heard from many New Zealanders who were concerned by what was happening.
