Northland will 'pay the price' for $29m DHB funding loss

A senior GP says poor and vulnerable people will pay the price of a loss of 29 million dollars in funding by Northland District Health Board.

Checkpoint revealed yesterday a cap in the funding formula used for all DHBs means Northland will go without the extra funding.

It comes as new figures out today show that 12 of the country's 20 DHBs are struggling to balance their books.

Last night the Health Minister Jonathan Coleman told Checkpoint he wouldn't speak with the Northland DHB Chief Executive Nick Chamberlain about his letter but he would consider speaking with the board's chairperson.

The Northland DHB Board chair is Sally Macauley. Listen to her response via the link below.
