Miracle chick for infertile Takahē couple

From Checkpoint, 5:53 pm on 11 November 2016

Quammen and Paku - a couple of Takahē that live at Orokonui Sanctuary in Dunedin - have been unable to fertilise their own egg.

But after 14 years of trying, Quammen finally did the business.

The viability of the pair's "miracle egg" remained uncertain until recently, but it hatched this week, and the chick was now "alive and kicking".
