Corrections recommends terminally ill prisoner allowed home

From Checkpoint, 6:28 pm on 9 November 2016

Two weeks ago, Checkpoint first brought you the story of terminally ill prisoner Vicki Letele, serving three years and two months for fraud.

Six months into her sentence, Ms Letele was diagnosed with terminal cancer, and given just months to live. But her release, for a large part, relied on a recommendation from the Department of Corrections to the Parole Board.

Tonight, we can reveal that has happened. Her Uncle Ula Letele has just received a letter from the head of Corrections, Ray Smith.
