A new chapter for China-New Zealand exchanges

Huo YanThe inaugural Rewi Alley Writing Fellowship has been awarded to young Chinese writer Huo Yan.

The award, offered by the New Zealand China Friendship Association in partnership with the Michael King Writers’ Centre, includes a two-month stay at the centre for Ms Huo.

The PhD student from Beijing, is using the fellowship to work on her first novel.

Lisa Thompson travelled to the Writers’ Centre in Devonport to meet Ms Huo, who has been labelled ‘one of China’s rising literary stars’.
