This week’s critter has been dubbed a ‘monster in a barrel’ and a ‘sinister squatter.’
The whatu ura or barrel shrimp, Phronima sedentaria, makes its home out of transparent sea creatures like salps and jellyfish by eating out their organs and playing house inside the shell.
