Back in the mid 1970s Auckland jazz-rock legends Dr Tree shook the foundations of local jazz and took it to the rock bars and clubs, winning a devoted audience with super tight performances that showcased their considerable individual and collective musical skills The album 'Dr Tree', released in 1976 and long out of print, was re-released by EMI in 2007, when Dr Tree also reformed after a 30 year absence from the live scene. Trevor Reekie spoke to original members Frank Gibson Jnr, Murray McNabb and Martin Winch about the seeds of NZ jazz-rock and the re-birth of Dr Tree.
