Born in London to parents of Ghanaian descent, 27-year-old self taught pianist and composer Benjamin Clementine has been on a journey that saw him relocate to France as a teenager, where he was discovered busking on the streets of Paris.

Benjamin poured his street-honed songwriting talents into his debut At Least For Now, an album which took out the UK’s prestigious Mercury Prize.

Trevor Reekie catches up with him halfway through his American tour to talk about his creative solitude and artistic vindication.
