Muslim Post-9/11 Series Wins Gold for RNZ in New York

The Radio New Zealand podcast series Public Enemy has won a gold award for excellence for its presenter, Mohamed Hassan, at the prestigious New York Festival Radio Awards announced in Manhattan today. RNZ National’s Saturday Morning host, Kim Hill, also received a gold award for Best Radio Personality.
The New York Festival Grand Jury has presented RNZ with a total of six awards - two gold, two silver and two bronze - the greatest number ever received by RNZ in any international competition. Four other submissions were also recognised as finalists in their respective categories.
With entries from over 30 countries, the New York Festival Radio Awards recognise the very best in the world of radio, celebrating programming of the highest quality that is at the forefront of audio innovation. Categories are designed to reflect emerging trends, covering all creative facets of the radio broadcasting industry.
Produced and presented by Mohamed Hassan, Public Enemy looks at the growing Muslim communities in the United States, Australia and New Zealand, and how elections, counter-terrorism policies, war and xenophobia have affected their lives in the 15 years since 9/11. Hassan travelled around each country to hear very personal stories from Muslims about the impact on their everyday lives.
Kim Hill’s gold award for Best Radio Personality follows her success at the 2012 AIB awards in London when she was recognised as the International Radio Personality of the Year.
New York Festival silver awards were presented to RNZ recording engineer Adrian Hollay and producer Tim Dodd for their RNZ Concert recording of Otello with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, and to Colin Peacock and Jeremy Rose for RNZ National’s Mediawatch programme.
RNZ Checkpoint presenter, John Campbell, receives a bronze award in the Best News Anchor category and RNZ News is also acknowledged for its coverage of the Kaikoura earthquakes.
