What’s Hot? Radio New Zealand Summer Season

Radio New Zealand presents its sizzling summer season from Boxing Day with an eclectic mix of programming fully supported by audio on demand and new podcast initiatives on New Zealand's number one radio website.
Summer Report kicks off a sixth season with a three hour blend of news, holiday features and summer events as reporters head into favourite spots around the country to take the pulse of summer. Famous and not-so-famous Kiwis share their lives and music on Rainy Day at the Bach and presenter Todd Niall will pack up his togs and towel and head to the beach for a live broadcast from Raglan.
Popular radio and television personality Noelle McCarthy joins the Radio New Zealand National team with her own programme on weekday mornings from 10.00 a.m. The new and lively Summer Noelle will feature a breezy mix of conversation, music, and just a wee touch of the blarney!
And Matinee Idle is back with Phil O'Brien and Simon Morris combining their slightly whacky talents to present afternoons full of music and entertainment. The Matinee Idle Classic Concerts are sure to be a winner again this year with an iconic line up including Sarah Vaughan, Bill Withers, Bruce Springsteen, and Neil Young.
On Radio New Zealand Concert there is more quality on offer from the 2008 Metropolitan Opera Season and a new series from the very popular Jazz at the Lincoln Centre with Wynton Marsalis and friends. This event has already been dubbed the "Wynton Wonderland" and promises to be an irresistible seasonal treat.
Saturday afternoons on Radio New Zealand National will see Kirsten Johnstone hosting the Music 101 Summer Edition with a mix of music, features, live recordings and fresh summer sounds and a perennial favourite, A Prairie Home Companion, returns on Saturday and Sunday mornings with a two hour programme.
Weekends on National include the chance to catch a selection of the very best from this year's programming from Saturday Morning and Sunday Morning, as well as Insight, Country Life and The Arts on Sunday.
Radio New Zealand's award winning website will play a key role in supporting summer entertainment with essential audio-on-demand and podcast services.
Radio New Zealand has announced that it will launch a new children's web service, Storytime Treasure Chest - on Saturday 22nd December - just in time for Christmas, and for lovers of fine music, Classic Podcasts will also be available from the website.
Classic Podcasts will include a complete 'live' performance taken from the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra's subscription series, and, in January, New Zealand's leading pianist Michael Houstoun, will perform Beethoven's Piano Sonata No 30 in E.
