Radio New Zealand Appoints Local Radio Journalist

Radio New Zealand has appointed an experienced local radio journalist, Emma Lancaster, as its new Dunedin based regional reporter, providing specialist news coverage for the Otago - Southland region.

Announcing the appointment, Radio New Zealand's Head of News, Don Rood, emphasised the importance of the position for the country's public service broadcaster.

"I am delighted to be able to employ a journalist of Emma's talent and ability to fill this demanding role. Many New Zealanders living outside the region rely on radio coverage to stay informed and in touch with current news, local activities and cultural events. Emma's knowledge and experience will be a great asset in covering issues of importance to the people of Otago and Southland."

Emma Lancaster grew up in Dunedin and attended Kaikorai Valley College where she was Head Girl in 1998. She has had a long association with the Dunedin Repertory Society.

Graduating from the New Zealand Broadcasting School in 2001, she has worked with Radio New Zealand in Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin and gained her Bachelor of Broadcasting Communications, majoring in Broadcast Journalism, in 2005. For the last two years she has been News Editor at The Radio Network in Dunedin.

Commenting on the announcement , Emma says she is excited by the opportunities the new position will offer.

"I'm really looking forward to playing a key role in bringing local news and events to an important and wide ranging national audience."

Emma Lancaster will spend a week in Wellington before taking up her new position in Dunedin on 24th September.
