Nanogirl's Great Science Adventures – new podcast for kids crash landing on RNZ soon!
Released at 10:14 am on 8 May 2019
Can we bring dinosaurs back to life? Is all bacteria bad? How high can birds fly?
RNZ and Nanogirl Labs have created an exciting new podcast series just for kids!
Nanogirl's Great Science Adventures sets out to find answers to these and other fascinating science questions with Nanogirl (voiced by her creator Dr. Michelle Dickinson) and her nanobot - the Constantly Learning Artificial Intelligence Repository - aka CLAIR.
Nanogirl's Great Science Adventures will be crash landing on Afternoons with Jesse Mulligan on RNZ National, and downloadable on iTunes and the RNZ podcast app.
Launching on Friday 10 May - each week Nanogirl will travel the country on her trusty - or is that rusty – Jetvolt taking a group of curious kiwi students with her on a rollercoaster ride. Their mission - to answer a burning science question while meeting a cool scientist along the way. Each episode also includes instructions for a simple experiment to do at home so everyone can be a scientist!
Dr. Michelle Dickinson, co-founder of Nanogirl Labs is passionate about increasing confidence and literacy around science and wants the world to know that science doesn’t just happen in a classroom at school - science is everywhere and for everyone.
“Looking at the world around us with curiosity – questioning things, asking why – that’s the start of a lifelong relationship with science. That’s something we can all be a part of! We’re thrilled with this collaboration with RNZ - it’s about making science engaging and fun for everyone.” said Dr. Dickinson.
Executive Producer RNZ Podcasts and Series, Tim Watkin, says “RNZ is about so much more than news and current affairs. We want children to feel at home here and to learn and be challenged and entertained just as much as adults. Michelle is a hero and role model to heaps of kiwi kids for all the right reasons and so we wanted to help share her enthusiasm for science with as many people as possible.”
“What I love about this podcast is that it has imagination and real school kids, bad jokes and good science. That marks it out.”
Nanogirl’s Great Science Adventures is made possible by the RNZ / NZ On Air Innovation Fund, a one-off fund of $6m created in Budget 2018.* The podcast launches on Friday, 10 May and will be heard on RNZ National every Friday on Afternoons with Jesse Mulligan at 3:20, and in Storytime, 6-7am Sunday.
