Karyn Hay Returns to Radio
Released at 9:08 am on 15 January 2018
Popular broadcaster Karyn Hay returns to radio in February with an innovative new weeknight show, Lately with Karyn Hay, on RNZ National.
A respected journalist, presenter, producer, and award-winning author, Karyn Hay is one of New Zealand’s most experienced multi-media broadcasters. Her wide-ranging career encompassing radio, TV, film, and print, has often focussed on supporting New Zealand music, culture and home-grown content.
The new RNZ show, Lately with Karyn Hay, will launch in mid-February, delivering a fresh, quirky, topical and engaging experience for late evening audiences. Stretching beyond hard news and current affairs, it will extend to live event coverage with a strong online and social media presence
Karyn Hay says she is excited by the potential of the new role and notes that it’s something of a return to early roots after spending two years with Radio New Zealand at the beginning of her career.
“It’s been on my wish list for a while now to return to RNZ. I began my broadcasting career fresh out of high school in 1977 as a Radio New Zealand cadet. It was a two year apprenticeship where every year ten school leavers, chosen from around New Zealand, were trained in all aspects of radio broadcasting. I’m thrilled to be returning to the network that gave me such a thorough grounding in public broadcasting.”
RNZ Acting Programme Manager, Chris Reid, said Karyn Hay is a respected international broadcaster with extensive multi-media experience and is well suited to the new role.
“Karyn’s extensive experience, her innovative approach, and familiarity with live presentation, means she can deliver quality content conversationally with great style and panache. Karyn is ideal for this role and we’re delighted that she shares our enthusiasm for the new programme.”
Lately with Karyn Hay commences mid-February on RNZ National and will be broadcast from 10 to 11pm weeknights from the RNZ’s Auckland studios.
