Samoa's FAST leader objects to rival presenting national budget

From Pacific Waves

The leader of Samoa's FAST Party says there is no way for the rival HRPP party to present a Budget under the current impasse.

The HRPP leader, the caretaker prime minister, Tuila'epa Sa'ilele Malielegaoi, has revealed plans for the country's biggest ever budget, promising a possible pension increase and additional benefits for others.

This comes in the third month of a political standoff over control of government after Tuilaepa refused to accept his party won fewer seats than FAST in the recent national election.

FAST leader Fiame Naomi Mata'afa told Don Wiseman there cannot be any Budget without parliament sitting, and that is something Tuila'epa is not allowing to happen.

FAST leader Fiame Naomi Mataafa speaks to the party 25 May 2021.
