A new study shows there needs to be new management of chronic pain in New Zealand, especially for Maori, Pacific and Asian people.
An Auckland University of Technology inquiry into inequity in outcomes from chronic pain services has just been published in the New Zealand Medical Journal.
The study found that at all stages - referral, end of treatment and six months after treatment, Maori, Asian and Pacific peoples had poorer scores for a number of clinical measures on pain.
The study's lead author, Associate Professor Gwyn Lewis, says chronic pain has a major impact on a person's wellbeing.
She told Don Wiseman what sparked the study.
