A gender-based violence survivor in Papua New Guinea says Pacific governments have a lot to prove in the fight against violence.

The UN's annual international campaign against gender-based violence ended on December 10, Human Rights Day.

According to the New Zealand Council for International Development, the Pacific region has one of the highest recorded rates of violence against women and girls globally with two out of three women subjected to physical and/or sexual violence in their lifetime.

Hennah Joku, a freelance journalist and gender-based violence advocate told RNZ Pacific's Lydia Lewis it's an issue that is rampant in PNG.
