New Zealand's effort to close its gender pay gap has made headways this week, with the government committing to pay transparency legislation in a bid to increase workplace equity and transparency for workers.
Through this potential legislation, the government aims to launch a reporting system for businesses and encourage them to release action plans addressing the drivers of the gaps.
However, Equal Employment Opportunities Commissioner Saunoamaali'i Karanina Sumeo says that it's not enough as over a million Pacific peoples and people of colour will not be considered in this legislation's current form.
