The Solomon Islands National Institute of Sports High Performance Unit has become an integral part of sports development in the country.

They are confident the country's contingent at the 2023 Pacific Games in November will perform better than the 2019 team.

A total of 800 athletes would have gone through special training in Australia for the 2022-2023 season.

Another 80 are travelling to China for a three-month specialist training across seven sports.

At the 2019 Pacific Games, Solomons finished in 13th spot with 36 medals: four gold, 13 silver and 19 bronze.

RNZ Pacific's senior sports journalist Iliesa Tora spoke with Solomon Islands National Institute of Sports High Performance Executive Director, Aaron Aslop.
