State funeral held for Sam Basil in Papua New Guinea capital

Two days of mourning for the late Papua New Guinea deputy Prime Minister Sam Basil have concluded in the capital.
 
Over the weekend, hundreds, including Prime Minister James Marape, Speaker Job Pomat, governors, state ministers and MPs gathered at Jackson International Airport as the body of Mr Basil and his close protection officer First Constable Neil Maino arrived into Port Moresby.
 
Today Mr Basil's body has been lying in state at the Parliament Grand Hall, a state funeral service was conducted this afternoon with the casket is expected to leave Port Moresby for Lae tomorrow morning.
