Pro-independence groups in New Caledonia wary of Macron

Pro-independence Kanak parties in New Caledonia say the re-elected French president Emmanuel Macron has his work cut out to regain their trust..

Macron has enjoyed a groundswell of support from the French Pacific territories despite a lower than usual turnout in some areas.

In New Caledonia, Macron won with 61 percent of the votes cast beating far-right political candidate Marine Le Pen who scored 39 percent.
