Fiji govt position on violence against women questioned

From , 6:02 am on 6 April 2022

The Fiji women's crisis centre is questioning the government's stance on violence against women after the attorney general Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum all but defended the participation of convicted rapists in national rugby sevens tournaments in the country.

Despite widespread condemnation earlier this year the convicted rapists and Fiji rugby sevens stars Amenoni Nasilasila and Nacanieli Labalaba have been allowed to continue playing in national sevens tournaments this season.

The coordinator of the Fiji women's crisis centre Shamima Ali joins me now.
