The Prime Minister of Solomon Islands Manasseh Sogavare says the Melanesian nation seeks "cooperation and understanding" concerning its security needs.
In a much-anticipated parliamentary address about a security pact with China, Mr Sogavare says the Solomon Islands will not forget the assistance of the government and people of Australia and New Zealand.
He says the long-time partners will "remain close in our hearts" as partners of choice in difficult times.
