NZ govt urged to review laws affecting overstayers

From , 6:00 am on 12 February 2022

The authors of new research looking at the lives of undocumented families in New Zealand say the country's immigration laws are inhumane and cause life-long and inter-generational harm.

The Unitec report entitled - 'Hidden Gems - Lived Experiences of Tuvaluan Hope Seekers and Their Families in Aotearoa New Zealand' provides a rare glimpse into the lives of undocumented families.

It was conducted by Hoa Nguyen and David Kenkel with the assistance of the Tuvalu Auckland Community Trust.

In this final installment of a three part series both researchers join me to talking about their findings.

If you haven't listened to the first two parts of this talanoa you can check them out on our website rnzi.com under Pacific Waves.

We will pick things up today with Hoa Nguyen responding to me asking who are they showing their research to and what actions are they hoping their findings will bring about?
