Five confirmed cases of Covid 19 in Tonga

Tonga's new Prime Minister believes the "resilience and strength" of people will get the kingdom through the impacts of the volcanic eruption, tsunami and now Covid-19.

There are five confirmed cases of the virus in the kingdom, and from last night the country is in lockdown.

Work is underway to establish the source of the infections and identify which variant it is.  

Hu'akavameiliku Siaosi Sovaleni, told RNZ Pacific the people have responded well to the lockdown which is due to be reviewed today.
