Tongan prime minister encourages citizens amid recovery

From , 6:01 am on 1 February 2022

The prime minister of Tonga is urging his citizens to be strong and take heart from what he described as their miraculous survival of the volcanic eruption and tsunami on the 15th of January.

Siaosi Sovaleni's speech comes as much needed rain has finally been falling in the kingdom helping to wash away some of the ash that everything was covered in after the eruption.

However the wet weather has also hampered efforts to restore telecommunications in the country.

Our reporter Finau Fonua has been following developments on the ground.
