A Kava bar owner in Auckland, New Zealand says moves by regulator Food Standards Australia and New Zealand to change kava laws in Australia could have negative impacts for businesses in this country and the region.
The regulator's call for public comment on proposed changes, which include an effective ban on pre-mixed kava and a controversial attempt to limit kava to "traditional use", closes on Thursday.
Todd Henry and his wife Anau own and operate the Four Shells Kava Lounge in Auckland.
Todd says he has serious concerns about the regulator's proposed changes both from a commercial perspective and a cultural one.
