Solomons govt intact ahead of no confidence vote

From , 6:02 am on 4 December 2021

The Solomon Islands government appears confident it can defeat an impending vote of no confidence against prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare next week.

Calls to remove Mr Sogavare fanned unrest which devastated the capital Honiara last week, prompting a request for security help from the region.

Although multiple countries have sent troops and police to help restore calm, local MPs are uneasy about what may lay in store in the short and immediate term future for their country.
